Military Medal 'In the attack on POLYGON WOOD, east of YPRES on 20/21st September, 1917, although twice wounded during the advance, Pte. JOHNSTON, remained in the Inf. B. position until the unit was relieved and worked continuously in consolidating the captured position. He also volunteered to carry messages through heavy hostile artillery barrage. Throughout the action he set a fine standard of devotion to duty and steadiness under fire.'
