With Details, 6th Light Horse, Maachi, Egypt, 27 December 1915. Marched out to Serapeum, 23 February 1916. Sick to hospital (mumps), 4 March 1916; discharged to duty, 19 March 1916. Sustained gun shot wound, head, Etmaler, Canal Zone, 20 July 1916. Admitted to 31st General Hospital, Kantara, 21 July 1916; transferred to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Cairo, 3 August 1916.

Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HMT 'Borda', 17 August 1916. Discharged, 28 November 1916 (medical unfitness: compound fractured skull).
