Commenced return to Australia from Suez on board HT 'Commonwealth', 21 January 1916 (3 months' change); disembarked Melbourne, 29 February 1916.

Returned to duty, 27 April 1916.

Re-embarked, Melbourne, 11 July 1916, as 2635 Pte, Australian Army Veterinary Corps.

Proceeded overseas to France, 30 September 1916; taken on strength, 30th Bn, in the field, 15 October 1916.

Admitted to 2nd Australian Field Ambulance, 2 November 1916 (rheumatics); transferred to 38th Casualty Clearing Station, 4 November 1916; to No 1 Australian General Hospital, Rouen, 5 November 1916; to England, 9 November 1916, and admitted to Canadian Red Cross Hospital, Taplow; transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 18 December 1916 (stone in urethra); discharged on furlough, 20 December 1916, to report to Command Depot, Perham Downs, 4 January 1917.

Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 6 January 1917; discharged, 13 January 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 10 days.
