Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when, finding a gap in the line caused by shell fire, he proceeded to it to get men into position to fill it. On his way he encountered an enemy post, which he tackled single handed, killing seven men. He then arranged for the closing of the gap'.
