'For conspicuous gallantry at DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT on 5th April 1918. He did splendid work as a Linesman assisting throughout the day in effecting numerous repairs to the line. He displayed great courage and fearlessly carried out his duties under very heavy shell and Machine Gun fire. His actions under the most trying circumstances were most inspiring to others.'
