'During the period 25 February to 16 September 1918, he has shown great courage and resource in difficult enterprises. His work on all occasions has been of the utmost importance to his company. During the operations at Peronne, on 1-2 September, he displayed great gallantry and showed fine qualities of leadership. Throughout the whole of the operations the battalion has been engaged in, he has set a very fine example of courage and devotion to duty.'
