War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 29 August 1915. Admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, 7 Septenmber 1915 (appendicitis); discharged to Convalescent Hospital, Helouan, 13 October 1915; to Base Details, Zeitoun, 16 November 1915. Admitted to 1st Australian General Hospital, Heliopolis, 17 February 1916 (pneumonia: serious); transferred to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, 2 March 1916 (influenza); rejoined Bn, 10 March 1916. Taken on strength, 60th Bn, Duntroon Plateau, 20 April 1916. Remanded for summary of evidence for Court Martial, on charges of (1) disobedience of orders, in that he appeared on parade unshaven; (2) neglect of duty, in that he failed to warn his mess orderlies: charges dismissed. Reverted to ranks at own request, 31 May 1916. Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 18 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 29 June 1916. Reported Missing, 19 July 1916.
