Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For marked gallantry and initiative during the advance near Le-Verquier, north west of St. Quentin, on the 18 September 1918. After the capture of the objective, when an enemy strong point in the trench system was still holding on, he immediately organized his section and attacked it, capturing two machine guns and twenty of the enemy. By his fine action he prevented a large number of casualties and assisted his company commander in pushing forward fighting patrols and an outpost line.'
