War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 21 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 27 March 1916; joined 21st Bn, 4 August 1916. Wounded in action, 6 August 1916 (gun shot wound, left knee and thigh, right shoulder), and admitted to 13th Australian Field Ambulance, and transferred same day to 44th Casualty Clearing Station; to 4th General Hospital, Camiers, 8 August 1916; to England, 20 August 1916, and admitted to Bradford War Hospital, 21 August 1916; to 1st Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 11 November 1916; discharged on furlough, 11 January 1917, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 26 January 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Benalla', 13 February 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 10 April 1917; discharged Melbourne (medically unfit), 17 August 1917.
