Admitted to 8th Field Ambulance, 10 January 1916 (orchitis); transferred to VD Hospital, Cairo, 11 January 1916; to Abbassia DB, 11 January 1916 (venereal disease, gonorrhoea); discharged, 18 January 1916; rejoined Bn, Tel el Kebir, 20 February 1916.

Found guilty, Duntroon Plateau, 11 April 1916, of persistently talking in the ranks: awarded 2 days' confined to barracks.

Found guilty, 29 May 1916, of failing to comply with an order given by a superior Officer: awarded forfeiture of 2 days' pay.

Ebarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 17 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 23 June 1916.

Wounded in action, 9 December 1916 (gun shot wound, left knee), and admitted to 1st Anzac Division Rest Station; transferred to 20th General Hospital, Camiers, 10 December 1916; to England, 6 February 1917, and admitted to County of Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbury, 6 February 1917; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 24 April 1917.

Found guilty, Dartford, 22 May 1917, of being absent without leave from 10 pm, 18 May, to 9 pm, 21 May 1917: awarded 2 days' confined to barracks and forfeited 4 days' pay under Royal Warrant.

Discharged to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 7 June 1917.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Runic', 20 December 1917; disembarked Melbourne, 13 February 1918, for onward overland travel to Adelaide; discharged (wounded), Adelaide, 15 July 1918.
