Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty as battalion intelligence officer. He sent in valuable information from his observation post, which was under heavy artillery fire, and several times visited the line, and was able to inform the battalion commander of the actual situation. He also assisted the defence by collecting men of a company, in which the officers were casualties, and placing them in posts. He did this under heavy machine gun fire.'
