'On 26th September, 1917, near ZONNEBEKE this man, who was a stretcher bearer, worked continuously during the operations. During the heavy hostile shelling he stuck at his work in the most gallant manner. When not employed in carrying he thoroughly searched sectors of ground for wounded in spite of frequent enemy snipers fire.'
