Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For great gallantry and resource near Proyart on 17 August, 1918. While searching for wounded, this non-commissioned officer located a large party of the enemy. He worked round and took them by surprise from the rear, ordering them to surrender. The enemy at once dashed for the trenches, but he succeeded in capturing five and a machine gun.'
