'For conspicuous gallantry at Chignes, 23 August, 1918. This warrant officer was of great assistance in maintaining direction and keeping the flanks in touch. In one instance he rushed a machine gun post, killing the crew, and capturing the gun. He set a wonderful example throughout.'
