Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty on 6th September 1918, near Tincourt. The Sector he had to attack was strongly held by machine guns and snipers, besides being wounded and water-logged. He made a personal reconnaissance, and finding a front attack impossible, disposed his company so as to advance on both flanks. He handled his men with complete success in accomplishing this difficult task, and set an example of coolness and disregard of danger at a critical time.'
