Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. Accompanied only by a corporal, this officer made a daylight reconnaissance, crawling across "No Man's Land" under cover of hedges and ditches until he reached the enemy lines, where he searched several houses and out-buildings. He then entered a hostile observation post and captured an enemy observer, whom he brought back. Through his initiative dash and skill, he secured valuable information of the enemy's dispositions.'
