Military Medal 'For most conspicuous gallantry and determination near MONT ST QUENTIN, near PERRONE, on the 2nd September 1918. This Non Commissioned Officer was No. 1 of a gun of a section of his battery detailed to follow closely the advance of our Infantry. His section was very heavily shelled by the enemy resulting in his Section Commander and three gunners of his detachment becoming casualties. he at once took command of the Section, placed two wounded gunners in a place of safety, kept his own gun in action by himself until relief arrived and carried on as Section Commander for three hours engaging all targets which presented themselves.'
