'At AUGER WOOD on the 11th August 1918 this soldier did excellent work in assisting and clearing the enemy from the wood and later when in contact with large numbers of the enemy he proceeded through intense enemy artillery fire and brought up six men from the Support position. This soldier was partly responsible with the aid of the reinforcements he brought up in clearing the wood of enemy occupation. He was also the means of sending back valuable information to the rear when this operation was in progress. he was untiring in his zeal and doggedness and was an example to his section.'
