Admitted Military Hospital, Sutton Veny, 14 March 1918 (bronchitis); discharged to duty, 4 April 1918.

Found guilty of being absent from place of duty on 9 April 1918, in that he was found without equipment at No. 3 canteen, Sutton Veny, when he should have been on duty at the hospital Guard, Sutton Veny. Also guilty of making a false statement to military police by stating his name was ?Smith?: awarded 20 days' Field Punishment No. 2.

Found guilty by District Court Martial of being absent without leave from 10 May 1918 until being apprehended in Belfast on 18 September 1918; awarded 1 year's detention and forfeiture of a total of 515 days' pay; transferred to Lewes Detention Barracks, 5 November 1918; sentence remitted from 20 March 1919

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Euripides?, 3 September 1919; disembarked Sydney, 24 October 1919; discharged Sydney, 7 December 1919.
