Military Medal 'On 4th October 1917, East of YPRES, he displayed conspicuous Gallantry in action. He was always first to volunteer for any dangerous work on forward lines and it was mainly owing to his efforts that his Battalion was kept in communication with forward Brigade Station during the day. In addition to his work as Signaller, he several times organised parties to carry back wounded, and when returning from repairing lines, he several times, himself, carried wounded through heavy shell fire.'
