War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 25 November 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 29 January 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 14 May 1917; taken on strength, 30th Bn, in the field, 28 May 1917. Admitted to 5th General Hospital, Rouen (synovitis, right knee: injury did not occur whilst in performance of his military duty), 31 July 1917; transferred to England, and admitted to 1st Bath War hospital, 13 August 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 28 November 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 5 December 1917. Transferred to 10th Depot Unit of Supply, 29 September 1918. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Sardinia', 19 April 1919; found guilty, 29 May 1919, of failing to re-embark at Fremantle on board 'Sardinia': fined £1 and forfeited 1 day's pay; disembarked Sydney, 11 June 1919; discharged, Melbourne, 23 January 1920.
