Military Medal

'For great courage and devotion to duty at DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT on 5th April 1918. Throughout the day he worked as a stretcher-bearer, and in that capacity he performed splendid work. In performance of his duty he had to continually cross stretches of country swept by machine guns and constantly under very heavy shell fire. Throughout it all he displayed great coolness and the possession of fine personal courage and endurance. He worked continuously during the action and his performance was of a very high order.'
