'At ZILLEBEKE on the night of 18/19th September 1917, Private Condon displayed conspicuous bravery and coolness in rescuing wounded men during the enemy bombardment by gas shells. In the first instance he gave assistance to three wounded men of the 6th Battalion. One died whilst being bandaged; the second was a walking case, and the third he carried, with the aid of Private Kenning, to the First Aid Post, a mile off, through heavy gas. On returning from this he bandaged two men at Hell Blast Corner and carried them, again with Private Kenning, to the First Aid Post. The whole of this work was carried out in the midst of a gas shell bombardment.'
