'During the attack on TOKIO RIDGE near ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917, this man, who was a linesman, was conspicuous for the cheerful and gallant manner in which he went out under heavy shell fire and repaired lines between Battalion Headquarters and the Brigade Forward Station. It was largely owing to his efforts that communications were maintained successfully throughout the day.'
