'For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership during the operations near Le Verquier on 18th September 1918. He moved with the leading line of his company, and was enabled to direct his men in clearing the enemy outpost line, and organized his company quickly for the final assault on the objective, when he again moved with the leading line, and personally accounted for a number of the enemy, finally taking his objective, with comparatively few casualties.'
