Admitted to 1st General Hospital, Cairo, 19 June 1915 (conjunctivitis); discharged to duty, 18 July 1915. Transferred to Intermediate Base and taken on strength, Cairo, 20 July 1915; promoted to rank of Sergeant, 27 July 1915.

Admitted to 3rd General Hospital, Cairo, 13 March 1916 (polypus nose).

Embarked Alexandria on HMT 'Euripides' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 11 May 1916; granted leave to England, 23 December 1916; returned to duty, 31 December 1916; granted leave, 11 May 1917; rejoined unit, 14 May 1917.

Found guilty in London, 23 January 1919, of being absent without leave, 8.45 am, 20 January, to 8.45 am, 21 January 1919: reprimanded by superior officer; forfeited total of 1 day's pay.

Admitted to 3rd Australian Hospital, Dartford, 13 February 1919 (influenza); discharged to headquarters, 18 February 1919; moved out for demobilisation, 20 May 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Bremen', 4 June 1919; disembarked Sydney, 27 July 1919. Discharged Sydney, 25 October 1919.
