War service: Western Front Embarked Melbourne, 24 July 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 11 September 1916. Marched in to No 2 Camp, Parkhouse, 12 September 1916; transferred to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 22 October 1916. Proceeded overseas to France, 6 April 1917; taken on strength, 2nd Field Ambulance, 19 May 1917. Wounded in action, Belgium, 4 October 1917 (shell wound, right arm); admitted to 1st Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 8 October 1917 (right arm amputated); transferred to England, 19 October 1917, and admitted to Berrington War Hospital, Shrewsbury (wound severe), 20 October 1917; transferred to No 2 Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Southall, 14 January 1918; discharged on furlough, 17 January 1918, to report to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 31 January 1918. Charged, 25 February 1918, with being absent without leave from 10 pm, 22 February, to 10 pm, 23 February 1918: charged dismissed (reasonable cause for missing train). Commenced return to Australia on board 'Port Darwin', 12 July 1918; disembarked Sydney, 17 August 1918; discharged (medically unfit), Hobart, 20 August 1920.
