Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He reconnoitred the whole of a two mile front over country affording little or no cover from the continual and heavy machine gun and rifle fire, thus greatly assisting in the organization of the defence. During the five hours he spent on this reconnaissance he displayed excellent judgment and the greatest courage.'
