Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry on the 9th and 10th days of August at LIHONS. During the attack this soldier showed exceptional courage in going out under very heavy Machine Gun and rifle fire and bringing in wounded. When volunteers for Stretcher Bearers were called for he was formost, and made many trips over the very flat and open country, carrying wounded from front line back to the R.A.P. a distance of about two miles. He was untiring in his efforts and was instrumental in saving many lives by quick administration of first aid. On one occasion, when an isolated party of three men in advance of our front line had been wounded, he left his place of safety and crawling forward succeeded in bringing the wounded men safely to our lines, which necessitated three trips.'
