'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in charge of a platoon on the left flank of his battalion during an attack. By his able carrying out of his orders he insured the advance of the battalion on his left. Also, he inflicted considerable casualties on the enemy, and took a number of prisoners and some machine guns. He did excellent service.'
