'This Signaller displayed great bravery and devotion to duty as a linesman during the recent operations at ZONNEBEKE on 26th September, 1917. By means of his services, and his untiring energy, communications by telephone were maintained between Battalion and Brigade Headquarters. He exhibited fearless courage on several occasions when repairing telephone lines under heavy shell fire.'
