War service: Egypt, Gallipoli, Western Front Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal Nominal Roll records fate as 'Missing in Action'. Court of Inquiry recorded that 'There is some doubt about this man being dead, but Court on Inquiry accepts probability that he was killed by shellfire. Memorial Plaque and Scroll, also medals, have been issued. This man was reported to have been seen entering the trenches and was not traced after. Regarded as a "Deserter" for a time but A[djutant G[eneral] gave approval for recording as killed on 15 August 1916.' Authority for inclusion on Roll of Honour contained in minutes of 49th Meeting of AWM Board held in Melbourne on 10 December 1956. ~ |
