Military Medal 'On 9th August 1918 during attack on enemy positions between VAUVILLERS and LIHON, Sergeant LAIRD behaved with great gallantry. The advance was most difficult and dangerous owing to the heavy and sustained fire of the enemy. Sergeant LAIRD regardless of personal danger pressed on in advance of the troops and by his personal example and coolness led the attacking troops with dash and decision against the enemy posts and reached the objective of the Battalion. His work materially assisted a successful advance and his example was of the greatest value to those he was leading.'
