Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty near Ascension Wood on the 18 September, 1918. Although his company was suffering heavy casualties, he rushed on ahead and brought his gun into action, and covered the advance of his company. Again, later he engaged at close range and silenced two enemy machine guns which were holding up the advance.'
