Military Medal 'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty when acting as a linesman from the 8th to 14th May the Battalion was occupying part of the Hindenburg Line near Bullecourt, during the whole of which time the enemy shelling was exceedingly heavy. On many occasions this man went out repairing lines under very heavy fire and thus maintained communication in the greatest difficulties. On the night of May 10th word was received that the enemy were massing for a counter attack and a heavy barrage was put up between Battalion Headquarters and the communication. This man at once started out and repaired the line. Returning to Headquarters, he found that the line had been again cut and at once returned and repaired it while the barrage was still on, thus restoring communication at a very critical time.'
