Embarked Sydney, 17 October 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 9 January 1917. and marched in to 9th Training Bn.

Proceeded overseas to France, 20 March 1917; taken on strength, 33rd Bn, in the field, 10 April 1917.

Wounded in action, 7 June 1917 (gun shot wound, right arm, left wrist), admitted to 9th Field Ambulance and transferred to Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to 7th Canadian General Hospital, Etaples, 8 June 1917; to 6th Convalescent Depot, Etaples, 17 June 1917. Found guilty, 18 June 1917, of being absent without leave from 10.30 am parade: awarded forfeiture of 1 day's pay.

Transferred to 3rd Australian Division Base Depot, Havre, 21 June 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 5 July 1917.

Admitted to 11th Field Ambulance,19 July 1917 (septic knee); discharged to Divisional Rest Centre, 21 July 1917; rejoined Bn, in the field, 21 July 1917.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 12 October 1917 (gun shot wound, left arm); admitted to 83rd General Hospital, Boulogne, 13 October 1917; transferred to England, 18 October 1917, and admitted same day to Northampton War Hospital; transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 28 December 1917; discharged on furlough, 31 December 1917, to report to No 3 Command Depot, 14 January 1918.

Marched out to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 14 February 1918.

Found guilty, 30 March 1918, of being absent without leave from 4 pm, 26 March, to 5 pm, 28 March 1918, when ordered to return to his Camp under open arrest: awarded forfeiture of 3 days' pay; total forfeiture of 6 dats' pay.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Borda', 5 April 1918; disembarked Sydney, 1 June 1918; discharged (medically unfit: wounded), Sydney, 3 September 1918.
