'For consistent good work and devotion to duty as Signal Sergeant, No 5 Section. In all operations since 14th April 1918 this N.C.O. has carried out his work in an able and efficient manner, often working under heavy enemy fire and adverse circumstances, and for long periods. By his untiring energy, willingness, and cheerfulness Sergeant BEALE has at all times set a splendid example to his section.' Second statement reads: 'For extreme devotion to duty and gallant work. Sergeant BEALE has during the operations of 4th July and 8th August 1918 near Hamel by his courage initiative and gallantry been greatly instrumental in maintaining communications between M.G. Battalion Headquarters and Batteries. He has repeatedly under heavy shell fire supervised and encouraged his men and it has been greatly due to his efforts that this new section has been able to maintain excellent communications.'
