Embarked Alexandria on HMT 'Corsican' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 28 May 1916; taken on strength of Fargo Hospital, Tidworth, 4 July 1916.

Found guilty at Tidworth, 27 July 1916, of being absent without leave, 25 July, to 26 July 1916 (6 hours): awarded 7 days' confinement to barracks; forfeited total of 1 day's pay; marched into No 2 Camp, Parkhouse, 21 September 1916; moved out to No 1 Training Bn, Perham Downs, 22 September 1916. Proceeded to France, 22 October 1916; marched into Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 23 October 1916; moved out from depot, 6 November 1916; joined 4th Bn in the field, 10 November 1916.

Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 21 December 1916, and transferred to Anzac Corps Receiving Station (influenza and bronchitis); to 38th Casualty Clearing Station, 28 December 1916; to Ambulance Train '23', 30 December 1916, and transferred to 12th General Hospital, Rouen; discharged to depot, 5 January 1917; marched into 1st Australian Divisional Base Depot, Etaples, 7 January 1917; moved into the field, 16 January 1917.
