'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was for a long period employed on Brigade Scouts, and since rejoining his unit he has at many times shown much skill in scouting, despatch riding, and gallantry in action. During the recent operations he performed some very daring and very useful scouting and reconnoitring work.'
