Military Medal 'At about 6.30 p.m. on the 7th August 1917 a Heavy Battery position at about I.3.c.7.4. was being shelled by enemy 8" when a dump of 60.pdr. ammunition was hit and set alight. Bombardier (A/Cpl) F.G. BEARD immediately left his Battery Shelter and went to the assistance of Sergeant SUTHERLAND who was proceeding to put out the fire, and notwithstanding the heavy enemy shelling and explosions of ammunition in the pit, he persevered in his task until the fire was extinguished. this N.C.O. assisted in saving a large quantity of ammunition and his courage and perseverance were a fine example to all ranks in both Batteries.'
