Military Medal 'For continued gallantry and devotion to duty throughout the period. by his great personal courage and devotion to duty he has always been a magnificent example to all ranks. As an instance of this, during the operations of 28th/29th August 1918 he went forward and ably assisted in the reconnaissance for construction of a Foot-bridge across the SOMME in advance of our Infantry Posts, under machine gun and shell fire. He has been continually doing such fine work, and is worthy of the highest recognition.'
