'Near LAGNICOURT on 22nd April, 1917, this N.C.O. Interpreter-operator was in charge of a listening set forward of LAGNICOURT. He remained on continuous duty for 22 days during which time he laid lines right up to the enemy entanglements and succeeded in intercepting a certain amount of enemy conversation. Each night he patrolled and repaired his wires often under heavy machine gun and shell fire, particularly the nights of 27th/29th April, 1917, when his wires were cut time after time. His work on the various Listening Posts established all through the winter has been of the highest character.'
