'For conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty. During the recent operations this man was stretcher bearing continuously for three days under heavy enemy fire and over swampy, almost impassable ground. His courage and endurance were at all times most marked. This man has acted as a stretcher bearer in every operation of the 1st Australian Division in France and has on all occasions done fine work.'
