Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. While under heavy machine gun and shell fire, which had knocked out the whole of his detachment except one gunner, he kept his gun in action, displaying the greatest coolness, and courage throughout. He was slightly wounded at the time, and had to be ordered away from the position to have his wounds dressed.'
