War service: Egypt, Western Front Wounded in action, Peronne, 31 August 1918. Tried by Field General Court Martial,Havre, 12 October 1918, on charges of (1) when on Active Service committing an offence against an inhabitant of the country at Havre on 29.9.18: assaulted Madame Le Cudence and Mlle Grandin; (2) causing damage to the property of Madame Le Cudence 19.50 francs; (3) when on Active Service, drunkenness, 29 September 1918; found guilty of charge (1), not guilty of charges (2) and (3): reduced to the ranks and sentenced to 5 years' penal servitude. Admitted to No 3 Military Prison, Havre, 30 October 1918; transferred to England to continue sentence, 3 December 1918; remainder of sentence remitted as from 25 April 1919. Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Orontes', 15 May 1919; disembarked Sydney, 1 July 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), Sydney, 8 August 1919.
