Military Medal 'At HANEBEKE WOOD on 20th September 1917 this N.C.O. after the objective had been gained was in charge of a Lewis gun team, and came under very heavy artillery fire. Most of the members were knocked out and he was the means of rallying these men around him and bringing the gun again into action. He showed great initiative throughout, as well as coolness and courage, and set a fine example to those who came in contact with him.'
