Re-enlisted in the AIF, 22 September 1916; discharged (medically unfit: neurasthenia and ocular defects), Adelaide, 9 August 1916. Re-enlisted, 12 March 1917 as No 3082; embarked 23 June 1917; disembarked Plymouth, England, 25 August 1917; commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Anchises', 1 November 1917 (shell shock and wound, right wrist); discharged (medically unfit), 8 February 1918. Medals: British War Medal, Victory Medal Shell shock and wrist wound were subsequently questioned by the Department of Repatriation, 16 July 1925, given that Loader did not serve in an active theatre of war, but the record remained unchanged.
