'For conspicuous gallantry in action near WARLENCOURT, on 2nd March, 1917.This N.C.O. led a platoon in the attack on MALT TRENCH. He rushed a party of the enemy, superior in numbers to his own and after inflicting casualties on several, took the remainder prisoners. He showed great resourcefulness and gallantry throughout the action. This N.C.O. also carried out a daring reconnaissance on the night of 28th February/1st March, 1917.'
