DUGGAN, reported, 10 December 1917: 'This Officer in civil life was a Commercial Traveller and is addicted to drink. He has had over 2½ years service and has done excellent work. Though he has never overstepped the mark sufficiently enough to warrant my applying for Court Martial, lately his moral fibre has broken down to such an extent that I have had to relieve him of the position of Transport Officer of this Battalion. At present I have not enough confidence in Lieut. Beaumont to entrust him with the duties of an Officer, and recommend that he be given a prolonged rest or sent to Australia. Lieut. Beaumont is married and has expressed his willingness to be returned.' Marched out to England for return to Australia, 2 January 1918.
