Military Medal 'For gallant conduct, courage and devotion to duty in the forward area working with his convoy near WESTHOEK on 14th October, 1917. This detachment was under orders C.E. 1st ANZAC carrying road making material. When the road was under heavy shell fire, being blown up in three places, this N.C.O. worked with three drivers salving bogged wagons and teams and returned assisting disabled teams eventually extricating the convoy with the loss of one wagon destroyed. He showed initiative in directing traffic at WESTHOEK RIDGE on this and other occasions and his conduct throughout has been of a high order and his example a great encouragement to the drivers.'
